The Chancery received word that REV. EUGENE H. HORNUNG, age 89 years, died Monday, November 23, 2020, at the WI Veterans Home, Chippewa Falls, WI. Funeral Services will be held at a later date. FR. GENE was born in Marathon, WI on January 25, 1931 and attended St. Mary Grade School, Marathon, Salvatorian Seminary, St. Nazianz. Other education includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.
Prior to becoming a priest, he enlisted in the Navy and after serving four (4) years, he returned home to farm and later married Delores with their union producing two children – Greg and Mark. FR. GENE re-enlisted in the Navy and retired after serving an additional twenty-one (21) years. Delores died in 2000, after suffering from cancer for 14 years.
A few years following Delores’ death and at 72 years of age, FR. GENE entered the Sacred Heart School of Theology, Hales Corner and was ordained to the Sacred Order of the Priesthood at St. Anthony Church, Cumberland, WI, on July 13, 2003, by Most Rev. Raphael Fliss, Bishop of the Diocese of Superior.

November 2008 Retired from active priestly ministry.
