"A well-trained choir adds beauty and solemnity to the liturgy and also assists and encourages the singing of the congregation." (Music in Catholic Worship, #36)
Our choirs always welcome new singers!
"While there is no place in the liturgy for display of virtuosity for its own sake, artistry is valued, and an individual singer can effectively lead the assembly, attractively proclaim the readings and take his or her part in other responsorial singing." (Music in Catholic Worship)
The cantor is a leader of prayer, especially entrusted with the psalms, who strives to allow the words of these ancient songs to become part of us through our worship experience. Cantors work with the music director on an individual basis to prepare for their ministry.
"Song is not the only kind of music suitable for liturgical celebrations. Music performed on the organ and other instruments can stimulate feelings of joy and contemplation at appropriate times." (Music in Catholic Worship, #37)
Organ, piano, winds, strings, brass, percussion - all are welcome at our liturgies.
