Parish Cluster Volunteer Opportunity for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Project
This year has presented many new challenges for each of us, but it has been especially difficult for many individuals who struggle to make ends meet even in the best of times. Thankfully, there are many organizations and churches that provide needed assistance to those needing a helping hand. The Salvation Army is one of the major charitable organizations. They provide services such as rent assistance, utility assistance homeless help and help during natural disasters and other emergencies in Barron County. The major fund-raising effort for the Salvation Army is the Red Kettle campaign during the Christmas season. All funds raised in the county stay in the county. The Salvation Army has reached out to the Grow Our Faith committee for help with their fund-raising effort in our Cluster communities. The fund-raising effort runs from November 13 thru December 31. There are two opportunities for you to get involved. First, the greatest need is for bell ringers at the Red Kettle sites. This year the Red Kettle sites in our area are at Nilssen’s Foods in Cumberland and Austad’s Super Valu in Turtle Lake. The shifts are for 2 hours each and run from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM Thursday, Friday, and Saturday each week. You can get additional information and also sign up for a shift at the Salvation Army website at www.registertoring.com. It would be great if we were able to get enough people to cover a whole day or more of shifts at the sites. Second, we could use a few individuals to distribute Red Kettle counter kettles to local businesses in the area. The counter kettles are small kettles that are placed in a location at a business where customers can donate while shopping. The kettles would need to be checked every 2 weeks or so to see if they are full and need to be exchanged for a new kettle. We are asking that members of the parish cluster prayerfully consider volunteering some of your time towards this effort.
